H Williams Inspiration

H Williams Inspiration and Material Story:

Heather Williams resides between New York City and Milan, Italy. The frequent travel and dichotomy of living in two very different cities inspired the aesthetics behind her namesake collection, H Williams. She channels her appreciation for the modern, raw, and industrial architecture of New York City seen in the skyscrapers, bridges, scaffolding, against the ornate and historical feeling of the churches in Italy seen in the mosaics, moldings and ornate detail work.

The debut collection from fall '09 began with her arrival in Milan in early 2008. She traveled extensively throughout Italy admiring the history and architecture of the country taking hundreds of photos and referencing them in her designs. The spring 2010 collection focuses on the New York skyline and various architectural landmarks throughout New York. During a clear evening, she admired the view of the skyline overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. This view, inspired many of the rigid interlocking and structural patterns seen throughout the spring 2010 collection further channeling Heather's appreciation for architecture and the home city where she began designing years before.
